  • Avoiding empty and dry gratitudes

How do you express your gratitude?

Most of the time when kindness is shown us, we like to quickly uttering the words “thank you”. While it is noble to let the people that has helped us feel appreciated with the word of mouth, there is no way of telling whether our ‘thank you’ is genuinely coming from the heart or it is just a phrase we have memorized to be uttering to people just as a formality.

Personally I show gratitude by buying a gift to represent to a person I appreciate. If you give me a million dollar and a buy a good portrait for you at 10 dollars, I think I have shown gratefulness genuinely.

We can never pay the people that shows us kindness. We may come through for them when they need us, but most often we meet people that we can never be able to repay at all. It is also not right for you to show thanks by just helping people that help you because that will be making thank giving transactional that is a matter of giving and taking.

But thanksgiving should be a culture of kind society and not a matter of give and take relationship.

We may never help people that were kind to us. I have been helped by strangers on the streets that I did not even capture their face, I may never meet this people to buy them rollipops to show how grateful I am because I don’t even know them. The best I can do to such people is being kind to random people and go my way without expecting thank you. That way I will be passing the spirit of kindness around. So another way of showing you are grateful is helping other people without expecting anything in return.

It is an error and hypocritical to help others so that we can find help when we need it…because that is not what our creator see things.
