  • My Best Week as a Freelance Web Developer

    Describe your ideal week.

    Monday:

    Client Wins & Momentum
Morning: Woke up to an email from a previous client referring me to a new startup — they need a landing page and MVP built in 3 weeks. We jump on a quick call, and I lock in a $5,000 contract with a 50% upfront payment.

    Midday:

Sent the invoice, signed the contract via HelloSign, and set up a shared Notion workspace for the project.
Afternoon: Sketched wireframes in Figma and created a clickable prototype. Client gave immediate feedback and loved the direction.
Highlight: Getting paid the same day I booked the project. No chasing invoices. 
    Tuesday: Productive Build Day
Morning to Evening: Heads-down build session on another client’s dashboard. Using Next.js, Tailwind, and Supabase.
Integrated authentication, profile editing, and a basic analytics dashboard.
Listened to music, hit a solid coding groove — barely noticed the hours pass.
Highlight: Knocked out 90% of a week’s worth of work in one go. Felt like a machine.
    Wednesday: Balance & Strategy
Morning: Took half the day off — went for a long walk, read a bit, caught up on personal stuff. Flexibility is one of the reasons I went freelance, after all.
Afternoon: Wrote a case study for a recent eCommerce project — outlined the design process, performance boosts, and SEO wins.
Posted it on LinkedIn and IndieHackers. Got a few DMs asking for availability.
Highlight: Marketing myself without feeling cringe. And it worked.
    Thursday: Tech & Talks
Morning: Jumped on a Zoom call with the new startup client — walked through the Figma prototype. They were impressed and signed off on the build.
Midday: Refined the design, then began scaffolding the frontend in Next.js.
Evening: Helped another freelancer in a dev community Discord debug their Stripe integration — felt good to give back.
Highlight: That client comment: “This looks better than what our agency gave us last year — and faster.” 
    Friday: Launch Day
Morning: Pushed final updates to an older client’s site (a local business). Migrated everything to their domain, configured Cloudflare, and tested responsiveness.
Afternoon: Sent a wrap-up video with Loom, shared a custom CMS guide I wrote for them, and handed everything off cleanly.
Client paid the final 50% of their invoice — ahead of schedule.
Highlight: They said they’re referring me to their cousin who’s opening a gym.
易 Why This Week Was the Best
Freedom: Worked when I was most focused — no 9am standups or pointless meetings.
Cash Flow: Locked in one new client, wrapped up two others. Clear income pipeline.
Creativity: Got to own design, build, and delivery — full stack, full control.
Reputation: Built long-term relationships through good work and solid communication.
