Some Problems involving linear equations

• A rectangular room has its length 8 m greater than its width. If its perimeter is 54 m, form an equation and find the measurements of the room.

• An equilateral triangle has two of the sides given as (3x-2) cm and (18+x) cm. The lengths of the three sides

• Magana is thrice as old as his son. In four years’ time the sum of their ages will be 80 years. How old is the son now.

• The three angles of a triangle are 2x^o, (3x-15)^o and (x+36)^o .Find the value x , hence find the size of the angles

• Tom, Sarah and Willy shared shs 30000 among themselves. Tom got 2000 more than Sarah. Sarah got shs 5000 less Willy. How much did each one of them got.

• Solve by elimination method

• (a)  x +5y = 9

• (a) 3x – y =5
• (b) x – y = 1

•  (a)  5u +2v =7
•   (b)  2u – 2v =7

• (a) 3x + 4y = 26
•  (b)  X + y  =7

7.  solve by substitution

•   (a) 2x-y = 4
•     (b)   x-y=1

•   (a) 2x +3y=4
