  • What everyone else would talk about

What everyone else would talk about

What topics do you like to discuss?

Human being interacts with each other through communication. When we meet, the first instinct is saying something to one another. In psychology we say that human beings are social beings and socialize by communicating to each other. When we are together with other people, we feel obliged to keep talking with them and prolonged moments of silence are usually uncomfortable to us.

But there are unwritten rules that dictates what kind of conversations an average person is likely to use to ensure that discomfort from silence when in company of each other is broken. Let me highlight a few common topics that almost everyone engages in when they meet.

    Introduction

When we meet new people, our tendency and inclination is to know some basic informations about them like names, occupations, or where they’re from. Because we know what we expect from other people, we also give them information about ourselves as a way of triggering this kind of communications. This kind of conversation is almost universal to anyone, both schooled and unschooled.

    Weather

I don’t know the reason but weather is among the first topic at our fingertips when we want to have a conversation with people, especially those we are not soo used to . We don’t talk about weather beacuse we care soo much about weather but probably because it is something both of us can observe and related quickly. Talking about the weather is a classic icebreaker and can lead to discussions about recent or upcoming events affected by weather.

    Location or Venue

A average person will want to talk about their environment when they meet the other person as a way of connecting. I don’t know why they do that but research shows that is one of the most likely way people will strike a conversation. If they’re meeting at a specific location or event, they might comment on the surroundings, the venue, or any interesting aspects of the location.

    Hobbies and Interests

Knowing about the other person’s hobby helps us find out what they like and can direct our next conversations with them. If we happens to share hobbies, we will become closer to each other quickly than otherwise.Sharing hobbies and interests is a great way to find common ground and spark conversation. People might talk about sports, books, movies, music, or any other activities they enjoy.

    Work or School

Probably because school life reminds us how we used to easily connect with each other with fear, tension or anxiety. School connection was the most natural way of connecting effortlessly and maybe we use the same history to connect with each other.Discussing work or school can provide insight into each other’s lives and backgrounds. They might talk about their jobs, studies, or recent projects.

    Travel

Sharing travel experiences or future travel plans is another common topic. People often enjoy talking about places they’ve visited or places they’d like to go.

    Current Events

Most of people are interested with current events and probably we get something that unites us easily in the current events like politics.

Discussing recent news or events can provide interesting conversation topics, but it’s important to be mindful of potentially sensitive or controversial subjects.

    Food and Drink

Most of us love food and in food we easily connect with each other.Talking about food and drink is another popular topic, especially if they’re meeting over a meal or a drink. They might discuss favorite foods, restaurants, or recipes.

what would you like to discuss with me?

Personally I love discussing about nature and creation. The whole creation is full of mysteries. From the earth geographic structure to the galaxies, both visible phenomenal things like mountains to those tiny invisible particles that make matter, it is just amazing. The way mathematics has been used by the creator to define and lay foundation of these things, it is just beautiful and it amazes me. If you have something to say about nature and universe, i become interested immediately because it is fascinating to me.

But the moment you start discussing about another person, I switch off
because am weak on those areas. I love solving problems and if you present a
problem, we will discuss it until we get a solution, but if you bring something
about our boss or anyone else, I will comment in a neutral way and go to other
businesses. I won’t waste time discussing people because such discussions does
not help them become better, at best, it can only alter our view on them. I
would rather form an opinion based on observations rather than hearing because
    I will not be biased.

I like discussion what can be measured, observed and controlled to have
alternative results….by now you should know am a scientist and not some sort
    of religious priest.

I though you should know:; 😜

  • Vector Addition

Addition of two vectors may be affected with the help of parallelogram law of addition.

The resultant(sum) vector R’ of A’ and B’ is the diagonal of the parallelogram of A and B of adjacent sides.

The triangular law of vector addition follows the parallelogram law which states that: if the tail-end of the vector is placed at the arrow-head of the vector, their resultant(sum) vector is drawn from the tail of the first to the head of the other.

    see the figure below

    Subtraction of vectors

The figure below shows addition of vectors in reverse direction of B’ vector.

The process of subtracting one algebraic quantity from one another is equivalent to adding the negative of the quantity to be subtracted. in essence, a-b = a+(-b)

The negative vector –B‘ of vector B is defined as a vector of the same magnitude(length) but in opposite direction.

    Resultant set of forces

Two vectors are said to be equal if they have the same magnitude and direction. If two vectors A and B are parallel, the magnitude of vector sum C equals the sum of magnitudes of A and B.

consider the vectors A and B represented below

The resultant vector C will be represented by a single vector as shown

If two vectors are antiparallel, the magnitude of a vector equals the difference of the magnitudes of A and B

The diagram below shows vectors that represents forces acting in opposite direction

The resultant vector is smaller than the larger vector and bigger than the smaller vector and moves in the direction of the larger vector.

    Conical Pendulum

The diagram below represents a body of mass m moving on a horizontal circle with a constant velocity v at the edge of a cord of length L.

As the body swings around it’s path the cord swings over the surface of a cord. The cord makes an angle θ with the vertical so that the radius of the circle in which the moves is R=Lsinθ and the magnitude of the velocity is given by:

where T is the periodic time.(time for one complete revolution).

The forces exerted on the body when it is in the position shown are it’s weight(mg) and tension(T) in the cord.

Tension T can be resolved into horizontal and vertical component Tsinθ and Tcosθ respectively. The body has no vertical acceleration, so the vertical forces Tcosθ and mg are equal in magnitude.

The resultant inward radial(centripetal) force is the horizontal component Tsinθ which is equal to the mass(m) multiplied by the radial or centripetal acceleration.

    From linear motion, F=ma.

but since the motion is circular; a=v2/r

hence, the expression for the horizontal motion.

    For the vertical forces;

    Tsinθ = mg ……………………………….. (ii)

When the equation (i) is divided by equation (ii) the result is:

but from trigonometry, sinθ/cosθ = tanθ; hence

When we make use of the relation r = L sinθ and v = 2πLsinθ/T

    The equation becomes:

    This leads to:

    hence we have;

    dividing by sinθ on both sides;

    from the equation tanθ = sinθ/cosθ ; 1/cosθ = tanθ/sinθ and therefore:

    and hence;

    and making T the subject of the formular, we have;

    which will results to:

The angle θ depends on the time of revolution T and the length of the cord.

For a given length L, cosθ decreases as the time is made shorter and shorter and the angle θ increases. The angle θ never becomes 90o sinces this requires that T = 0 or v= .

The largest possible value of T is given by T=2π√l/g which occurs for a very small angle θ for which cosθ=1 and therefore:

    5 years a go

When is the last time you took a risk? How did it work out?

I left a toxic working environment but I have never regretted that decision despite the turmoil and pain I went through. It is better to suffer for a while and make changes rather than live in a misery.

The effects of a toxic work environment can extend beyond the workplace and significantly impact an individual’s personal life in various ways. The earlier you withdraw from such environment the better. People with great potential have been drained in such places and they eventually becoming useless to both their employer, to themselves and to society at large. The effects affects physical , emotional, mental and spiritual health health such that you can have long lasting effect that affects even your social life. Here are some known effects that are common to many people from such environment.

In general, the effects of a toxic work environment can penetrate every aspect of an individual’s life, affecting their mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Recognizing the signs of toxicity and taking steps to address them is crucial for preserving one’s personal health and happiness.

Health work environment is very important

A healthy work environment is described as one where people are valued, treated respectfully and fairly, where personal and professional growth is supported, communication and collaboration are championed, and there is a sense of community and trust at all levels, which enables effective decision-making. A healthy work environment comprises competent employees, appropriate workloads, effective communication, collaboration, and empowerment, which leads to positive outcomes for patients, employees, and the organization(Donley J. The Impact of Work Environment on Job Satisfaction: Pre-COVID Research to Inform the Future. Nurse Lead. 2021 Dec;19(6):585-589. doi: 10.1016/j.mnl.2021.08.009. Epub 2021 Sep 4. PMID: 34512206; PMCID: PMC8416300.)

    Increased Stress and Anxiety

Dealing with constant negativity, criticism, or hostility at work can lead to chronic stress and anxiety. This can spill over into personal life, making it difficult to relax and enjoy time outside of work.

    Strained Relationships

High levels of stress and frustration from work can strain relationships with family members, friends, and romantic partners. Individuals may become irritable, withdrawn, or emotionally unavailable due to the toll of their work environment.

    Poor Work-Life Balance

Toxic work environments often demand excessive hours or emotional labor from employees, leaving little time or energy for personal pursuits, hobbies, or relaxation. This imbalance can lead to feelings of resentment and dissatisfaction with both work and personal life.

    Physical Health Issues

The stress and anxiety caused by a toxic work environment can manifest in physical health problems such as headaches, muscle tension, fatigue, and sleep disturbances. Over time, these issues can contribute to more serious health conditions if not addressed.

    Negative Self-Image and Self-Worth

Constant criticism, micromanagement, or bullying in the workplace can erode an individual’s self-confidence and self-esteem. This negative self-image can spill over into personal life, affecting relationships and overall well-being.

    Decreased Enjoyment of Activities

When work-related stress and negativity dominate one’s thoughts and emotions, it can become challenging to find joy or fulfillment in activities outside of work. Individuals may lose interest in hobbies, socializing, or other activities they once enjoyed.

    Impact on Mental Health

A toxic work environment can exacerbate existing mental health issues such as depression, anxiety disorders, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The constant stress and negativity can make it difficult to cope and may require professional intervention.

    Difficulty Switching Off

In today’s connected world, it’s often challenging to disconnect from work, especially when faced with a toxic environment. Constant emails, messages, or thoughts about work can intrude into personal time, leading to feelings of overwhelm and burnout.

    conclusion

For the sake of your health, wellbeing of your loved ones and your influence , better start thinking how to leave once you realize that you are in a toxic work environment.

  • Starting a business

    Starting a business

Describe a risk you took that you do not regret

Doing business was better than all things I tried to do. When you are an employee, you are basically a consumer. All you do is do routine things and wait for a salary that can barely meet your wants. All you have is some little cash to cater for your basic needs for the next thirty days. You creativity is limited and your ideas are usually suppressed because you have to work and act within what is accepted by your employer. When you have great ideas, you can’t try them out but in business world, you have unlimited opportunities to succeeded as you can try new ideas that randomly comes to your mind.

In employment, one can keep postponing good ideas that could change their lives and that of others because they focuses mostly on fitting their immediate needs to their salary and could wait for ever to start out on something big.

Overall, while traditional employment provides stability and a steady income while business ownership offers individuals the opportunity to pursue their passions, create wealth, and make a meaningful impact on the world around them.

The importance of business over employment lies in the opportunities it offers for personal and economic growth, innovation, and wealth creation. Here are some key points highlighting why business ownership can be more advantageous than traditional employment:

Owning a business provides the opportunity to create wealth rather than simply earning a salary. Successful businesses can generate significant profits, leading to financial independence and long-term wealth accumulation.

Business owners have greater control over their work environment, operations, and decision-making processes compared to employees. This autonomy allows them to pursue their vision, values, and goals without the constraints of organizational hierarchy.

Businesses are often engines of job creation, contributing to employment opportunities for others in the community. By starting and growing a business, individuals can directly impact job creation and economic development.

Entrepreneurship encourages innovation and creativity as individuals develop new products, services, and business models to meet market demands. This pursuit of innovation can lead to groundbreaking advancements and industry disruptions.

Business owners have the flexibility to set their schedules and prioritize tasks according to their personal and professional needs. This flexibility can lead to a better work-life balance and increased job satisfaction.

Building a successful business allows individuals to create a lasting legacy for themselves and future generations. A well-established business can be passed down to family members or sold as a valuable asset.

While traditional employment provides a steady income, business ownership offers the potential for unlimited earnings and financial independence. Successful entrepreneurs can build scalable businesses that generate passive income streams and wealth over time.

Running a business requires individuals to develop a diverse skill set, including leadership, problem-solving, communication, and resilience. The entrepreneurial journey can foster personal growth and self-improvement.

Businesses play a vital role in contributing to the economic prosperity and social well-being of society. They create value for customers, stimulate economic growth, and support charitable initiatives and community development projects.

While business ownership entails risks, such as financial investment, market competition, and uncertainty, it also offers the potential for high rewards and returns on investment. Successful entrepreneurs are willing to take calculated risks to achieve their goals.

      Speeding cars

      What makes you nervous?

I have never understood why we need to move that fast in most of the time, but whenever am in a very fast moving car and am not the driver, it really makes me nervous.

I always wonder if a speeding driver really have a hint of the long time effect if peradventure he makes any mistakes. That a few seconds of stupidity can have long long term effect like life time disability, orphanage to children whose parent’s life is halted suddenly, making the car we cherish unroad worthy, traumas to survivors etc.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), road traffic injuries caused an estimated 1.35 million deaths worldwide in 2016.Low-income countries now have the highest annual road traffic fatality rates, at 24.1 per 100,000, while the rate in high-income countries is lowest, at 9.2 per 100,000.(Wikipedia, accessed 22/04/2024)

Countries with the most of accidents per year by 2019:

      United States 1,949,000
      Germany 300,143
      Turkey 174,896
      Italy 172,183
      United Kingdom 123,212
      Canada 105,791
      Spain 104,080
      France 56,006

The United States has more than four times the number of car accidents of any other country in the world. China had the eighth-highest number of motor vehicle accidents in the world in 2018. It reported approximately 212,000 accidents.

Considering the devastating long term effect of road carnage, i think no car manufactured should exceed 80 km/hr.

Thinking about all this, I wonder if we should be having fast moving vehicles in the dry land, that is why it makes me so nervous.

      AMA Citation Style

A citation is a formal reference to source of publication that you have consulted and obtained information from while writing a paper. Citation shows the reader where to find more information incase they need to expand their knowledge beyond your writings and increases your credibility as an author. Citation illustrates the non-linear and contested nature of knowledge creation and reinforces your arguments by demonstrating that you consulted relevant and knowledgeable sources before engaging on what you are saying.

Citation refers to a source of information that supports a factual statement, proposition, argument, or assertion or any quoted text obtained from a book, article, web site, or any other type of material. Materials cited at the end of a paper may be listed under the heading like References, Sources, Works Cited, or Bibliography. Rules on how to properly cite a source depends on the type of writing style you have adopted and your target audience as per the subject matter in your writing.

Citations helps the reader understand the contextual aspects of your research by highlighting what sources that were most important to you while you were writing your paper and also helps you honour other people that have contributed to the knowledge and information you want to share.
