How often do you say “no” to things that would interfere with your goals?
Every day I say no to a couple of things like no to going out, no to keep scrolling through social media, no to endless chatting, no to watching TV for more than 40minutes, no to some relationship, no to sleep some more few hours of sleep in the morning, no to strangers and acquaintances that need some money from me urgently and the list is endless .
Mostly, I have no choice but to say no, lest I be left broke, left with projects lagging behind schedule, left with failed examinations and with unfulfilled course grade, and be left with many tasks uncompleted.
You see, each day we are confronted by soo many things that need our attention.
If I say yes to everything that comes my way, I will be overwhelmed, frustrated, sick, mad or even dead. We have to make choices because we meet many things daily that can make or destroy us. Ability to say no is a great skill because you only need few things in life that will help you have a fulfilled life, otherwise your efforts will be distergrated soo much so that we end up with nothing at end. Each daily we have to make any choices and things entices us to say yes to them.
Social media is meant to look attractive in order to distract your mind, and so all things that are distractions to a worthy course. As a matter of fact , things that are more important to us are less attractive when engaging in them than those that are just time wasters. For instance, it is easier to scroll through social media for hours than reading a physics text books for hours. It is easier to enjoy time with friends in drinking spree than sitting down and working on a project. Our flesh is inclined to pleasures but most of things that will give meaning to our lives are usually difficult and Not appealing to us.
It is easier to watch with uttermost concentration when watching sexual explicit materials than reading holy scriptures.
It is easier to complain about circumstances than work on things that can help solve our problems.
It is easier to be mad and angry than maintaining a calm spirit amidst things that tries our patience.
The Holy Scriptures says:
Proverbs 16:32
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
It is easier to be recently and bitter than loving and showing grace to those that have hurt us. That is why saying NO is important but many a times quite difficult, because we so no to things that are easy and mostly pleasurable to do in order to give attention to things that are difficult to do.
The fact that, it is difficult to do things that matters is what makes success more sweet. As it is said, “success is not easy to get, otherwise everyone should be successful”.
